Adjusting to life as a new parent is a rollercoaster of a journey that looks different for every person. The arrival of a baby brings forth a myriad of changes, and it’s all too easy to be consumed by your new role, dedicating every waking moment to your baby’s needs.
While it may seem natural to put your little ones first, neglecting your own health and self-care has its consequences. Self-care isn’t a luxury or an indulgence, but rather a necessity for your physical and mental well-being, which is why it’s crucial to remember to prioritize your well-being alongside that of your kiddos.
Having a healthy and happy parent is essential for raising happy and healthy babies. Kids learn through observation, and when they see you prioritize self-care, they understand the importance of nurturing themselves too.
By finding a balance between caring for your family and caring for yourself, you can create a harmonious and fulfilling life for both you and your babies. Hopefully these simple tips can help you prioritize your health and yourself in this new phase of life!
Daily routines and habits

Finding time for self-care may feel challenging, but even small moments can make a world of difference. That’s why I recommend having at least 1-3 easy daily routines or habits that serve as the backbone to your day.
Daily routines can help you to carve out time and seize certain moments of the day to focus on your own needs. Developing morning and/or nighttime routines that allow for you to wake up a bit earlier or stay up a bit later to engage in activities that serve your highest self can promote better mental and physical well-being.
My daily habits include taking my vitamins in the mornings and evenings, spending 10-15 minutes outside during the day, and journaling at night.
Nutrition
As a parent, it can be surprisingly tough to feed yourself. I can’t tell you how often I’ll look up at the clock and see it’s past 3pm and realize, I haven’t eaten yet today.
It’s hard to find time to eat and to eat healthy, that’s why it’s all about convenience. It might be tough to imagine convenient and healthy, which is why I’m super excited to share my secret to choosing convenience AND nutrition.
Meet: SaladPower — all your daily vegetables in one pouch! Mostly veggies (a little apple and lemon for taste), entirely organic, and nothing added so it’s great for babies too! All that aside, what I really love about SaladPower is that their mission is centered not just around human health, but the planet’s health too (and if you’ve been around you know I’m all about sustainable initiatives).
Veggies in a SaladPower smoothies are grown on organic farms, cultivated without chemicals and pesticides used on commercial farms that have downstream, long-term effects on health and the environment. These smoothies use 100% of the produce (low waste) that come exclusively from domestic farms (low emissions).

By choosing SaladPower, you not only prioritize your own health but also contribute to the larger cause of sustainability. Really it’s more than just a smoothie, it’s a lifestyle choice! Embrace the power of veggies and make a positive impact on your well-being and the planet’s health.
Give it a try, embrace the power of veggies, and make a positive impact on your well-being and the planet’s health!
While these are great for grab and go, I’ll also share my secret to spicing up a SaladPower smoothie. Just toss these together in a blender:
- 1 SaladPower pouch
- 1/3 cup frozen mango chunks
- 2-3 frozen strawberries
- 1 scoop vanilla-flavored protein powder
- 1 scoop collagen
Downtime

When downtime comes around, make the most of it! Remember to take what you need, whether it be rest (which yes, you deserve, and yes, other things can wait) or some productivity.
Make the most of your downtime by indulging in activities that nourish your mind, body, and soul. Choose activities that make you feel present and connected. Opt for things that can be fulfilling but also provide a sense of relaxation and creative expression.
I personally enjoy crafting, writing, reading, generally getting captivated by a good book or show, allowing myself to escape the demands of daily life for a little while. And of course I love spending quality time with family and friends, engaging in meaningful conversations and creating lasting memories — but I’m not sure I’d always call this downtime!
Movement
Make movement a priority! This could mean doing things on your own, as a couple, or as a family.
I love to incorporate movement into my days by going on long walks. A perfect activity if it’s just you and your baby or a whole family affair! We’ve also talked about getting bikes to use as a family.

One thing I really appreciate about the dynamic I have with my partner Stephen is that we allow each other to have the time and space we need to incorporate movement into our routines individually. I’ve really taken to barre classes and take them 2-3 times a week!
Prioritizing your health and self as a parent can you to recharge and replenish your energy. I hope this encourages you to do exactly that and prioritize self-care as a parent!
